Pasta, Not Pot 義大利粉,不是大麻

(Chinese translation below / 中文翻译如下) Dear Friends & Neighbors, Are the DiGrande brothers going to convert our beloved Gold Mirror Italian restaurant into a high-end pot shop? We are slowly learning that Gold Mirror owners  Roberto & Domenico DiGrande, along with business partners from the Fig &Thistle Apothecary in Hayes Valley, have serious plans to start serving cannabis instead of canoli. We don't know the precise reason why: perhaps better profit margins, restaurant burnout, desire to try something new? We are only speculating as to their exact motivation, but we do know the following facts: 1) The Planning Commission recently approved unanimously a conditional use permit to sell cannabis and cannabis related products at 800 Taraval St (the Gold Mirror address). 2) The cannabis dispensary is expected to open on the 2nd floor mezzanine level of the restaurant with its own private entrance on 18th Ave, own staircase, elevator for disabled customers, restroom, sec...

Ms. Rachel Tanner, Please Apologize

Image
Dear Friends & Supporters, During the public hearing for the Gold Mirror cannabis dispensary earlier this month, the president of the planning commission, Ms. Rachel Tanner, referred to the public participants, who voted overwhelmingly against the dispensary, as "racist, liars, and misinformed." At first, we did not fully understand the scope and reality of what she was trying to convey to us. To label them as racist and liars -- for nothing more than voicing their concerns about the dispensary -- does not seem like something that would happen in a city like San Francisco, but it did. You can view a video of Ms. Tanner ...

We Are Appealing!

Dear Friends and Neighbors, Thank you for all of your support at the public hearing last Thursday, Feb. 2nd . There was an outpouring of supporters, both in-person and online, who voted overwhelmingly against the conditional use cannabis permit for the Green Mirror, but as we anticipated, it was unanimously approved by the planning commissioners, who clearly have a different agenda in mind than the District 7 residents. We were touched by the sincere and heartfelt pleas made by our neighbors, who deeply care about our neighborhood and believe a cannabis dispensary at 18th Ave & Taraval St is not a good fit, based on parking conditions, the prevalence of schools and children and teens who frequent the intersection, the nearby availability of other dispensaries, availability of online delivery, etc.  So, what kind of system ignores its constituents and votes unanimously to approve a permit or other proposition at a public hearing, where over 50 people show up and over 80% of them...
