Three-Month Backlog at SF Planning

Dear Neighbors,

Below is a response one of our volunteers, who wishes to remain anonymous, received from Sylvia Jimenez at SF Planning. It will take another 12 weeks before they can assign a planner to the proposed cannabis site at 18th Ave & Taraval St.

Thank you for your email and feedback regarding the proposed Cannabis use at 800 Taraval. Due to our current 12-week backlog on the Southwest quadrant, we have not assigned this project to a planner to date. However, I will include your detailed comments in the project record for and consideration once the review has commenced.

Public Hearing Date Set for Gold Mirror Dispensary

Dear Friends & Neighbors, (中文版本将跟随英文版本) The hearing date for the Gold Mirror cannabis dispensary ( proposed name "Green Mirror") has been set for Thursday, January 5th, 2023. This will be a hybrid meeting with both in-persona and online access. Time, location, and Zoom link for the hearing will be shared soon. It's imperative you join us, preferably in person, as this will make a stronger impression on the planning commissioners, who will vote during the hearing whether or not to approve the cannabis permit for the Gold Mirror.  Some background information..... We held a debate with the proponents and opponents of the dispensary at last month's Greater West Portal Neighborhood Association (GWPNA), and three points became immensely clear during the debate. 1) The Gold Mirror owners are using the proposed dispensary to help subsidize their supposedly "ailing" restaurant business. What About the Housing Mandates (Part 2/2)

Dear Friends & Neighbors, In case you missed it, we held our housing townhall last Tuesday, 2/13, at Miraloma Clubhouse. We had a modest turnout, and an excellent dialogue with panelists and neighbors surrounding the pros and cons of the new housing mandates. Matt Boschetto, who is running for D7 Supervisor, hosted and moderated the townhall. I believe there will be a video recording of the event coming out soon. I will share it with you when it is ready. In Part 1 of this blog,  I wrote how the new densification and upzoning laws are being forced upon the city by the state, without proper feedback or consensus from the neighborhoods themselves. One of the panelists at the townhall, Mr. Corey Smith, from  Housing Action Coalition , made it clear that municipalities no longer have the choice of "opting out" of these new laws. Sacramento has set very specific guidelines for how many new units to build and by when, and so now, it's up to us to figure out how to do this. ...
